About

Shalom!

Let me introduce myself and give you some background information about myself. My name is Dvora Maor. (Dvora, by the way, is Deborah in Hebrew.) I was born in Poland. My parents were both survivors of the holocaust. When I was a young girl, we immigrated to Israel and thus I am a citizen of this wonderful nation. I graduated from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem with a degree in history and literature. At that same time I also completed the course required for tour guiding and thus was licensed as a tour guide by the Ministry of Tourism.

After graduation, I was an elementary school teacher. Then I was sent by the Jewish Agency to London for the purpose of teaching Hebrew. After that I ended up in the United States for a period of time. I continued to teach Hebrew at this stage of my life, but this time while living in Chicago. Several things happened while I was in the States. One was that I became proficient in speaking English (besides my ability to speak Hebrew and Polish fluently). It was also there that I became a believer in God’s Son, Yeshua (Jesus’ Hebrew name).

After some time, I returned to Israel in 1992 and once again continued my teaching career. Then in 1995 I became a full-time tour guide, which I have been doing ever since. Each year a tour guide is required to take one course as a refresher, which enables them to stay up with the latest developments within the land. As time permits, I try to do between two to four courses a year. There is so much that has taken place within Israel, as we have thousands of years of history with many different countries interacting. In fact, someone once said that Israel is just one big archaeological tell, waiting to be dug up and explored! Thus there is such a need to continue to stay up-to-date with the latest discoveries. I also took a course that would teach me how to work with those that are physically handicapped in some form, such as being blind, hard of hearing, or just physically challenged. Thus I am able to make an educated assessment as to whether certain sites would be accessible for all those involved with the tour.

Even though tour guiding is my livelihood, I view it as my ministry. This is, I believe, what God has called me to do. This is my opportunity to make the Bible come alive for each participant on my tour. I love to teach the Hebrew roots for the Christian faith, which is often something that many Christians are not aware of. I also enjoy showing the connection between God, the Jewish people, and the land of Israel. And there is so much to speak of concerning this land. I hope I have the opportunity to share with you, as you participate on one of my tours! Looking forward to meeting you!
